Two years ago, during my collegiate years, I went on a week long study abroad trip with a group of students to Queretaro, Mexico! I knew for my first study abroad trip I wanted to go somewhere like a country in Africa, or Mexico. I still haven't been to Africa yet, that is on the bucket list. I was set to go to Botswana in 2016, but my trip got canceled. :( Well, at least I can say I marked Mexico off the list of places I want to travel.
I must say, oh my goodness, I had the time of my life! This was truly one of the best cultural and spiritual travel experiences.
I was immersed into a culture unlike anything I have ever experienced but I realized in some ways it was very similar to my own. I remember seeing a guy dance on the street. The first thing I thought was "wow, that's African dance!" Blew my mind. A history lesson would soon take place on the widespread influence of African culture throughout the world.
I had many adventures that changed my life. I climbed the second largest monolith in the world, visited a winery in Redonda, climbed the Sun and Moon pyramids of Teotihuacan, and partook in a Mayan tradition and danced with the people. One of the best experiences ever!
The places I got to see, the people I met, the food I ate, the things I did were so unique that if I could do it all over again right now I would. Until that moment comes, when I can travel back to Mexico and experience a rich culture of beauty, I will write this post instead and share a few pictures and videos from my experience and reflect on those memories. Definitely put this on your bucket list.
